What we collect when you book with us, why, and what your rights are.

1. Who we are
Driveway Details, a car detailing service based in Bath, UK, is the data controller for the personal information described here. Contact us at hello@drivewaydetails.co.uk with any question or request about your data.
2. What we collect
- Contact details: name, phone number, email address.
- Booking details: your address or the vehicle's location, vehicle make/model, preferred date and time, and any notes you give us about the car.
- Payment information: if you pay online, Stripe (our payment processor) handles and stores your card details — we never see or store your full card number. We do receive limited payment metadata from Stripe (e.g. that a payment succeeded, the amount, and a reference token that lets us process a refund or, per our Terms & Conditions, an access/call-out fee against the same card without asking for your details again).
- Reviews: if you leave us a review, we store the name and text you provide and may publish it on this site.
3. Why we collect it
- To schedule, confirm, and carry out the booking you've requested.
- To process payment, refunds, and (where applicable) the access/call-out fee described in our Terms & Conditions.
- To contact you about your booking (confirmations, timing changes, follow-ups).
- If you enter your email in the booking form but don't finish booking, to send you one reminder email with a link back to the choices you'd made. We keep that unfinished booking for up to 3 days and never email you about it more than once.
- If you sign up under "Coming soon" on our homepage, to email you once when that service launches. That's the only thing we use that email for; ask us any time and we'll remove you.
- If we'd like to share photos of your car on our website or social media, to email you a link where you can say yes or no to each photo (and ask us to blur your number plate). We only post photos you've said yes to, and you can change your answer at any time with the same link.
- If you've booked with us before, to send you an occasional email about our services, such as a "time for another clean?" reminder a few weeks after your visit or an offer. Every one of these has an unsubscribe link, and once you unsubscribe we won't send you any more (you'll still get emails about any booking you make).
- To keep basic financial records, as UK law requires.
Our legal basis for this is performance of the contract we enter into when you book, and our legitimate interest in running the business (e.g. keeping records, preventing no-shows, and telling past customers about similar services, which you can opt out of at any time).
4. Who we share it with
- Stripe — processes all card payments and securely stores payment methods. See Stripe's privacy policy.
- Vercel — hosts this website and the database that stores booking records.
- Anthropic — when we upload photos of your car after a job, small copies of them (no name or other details) are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI to sort them into "before" and "after". Anthropic doesn't use them to train its models. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone else outside of what's needed to deliver your booking or as required by law.
5. How long we keep it
Booking and payment records are kept for as long as needed to run the business and to meet UK tax record-keeping requirements (currently up to 6 years). You can ask us to delete other personal data (e.g. if you contacted us but never booked) at any time.
6. Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you can ask us to: give you a copy of the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it (subject to our legal record-keeping obligations), or stop using it for a particular purpose. Email hello@drivewaydetails.co.uk and we'll respond within a month. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
7. Cookies & analytics
This site doesn't use tracking or advertising cookies. We run our own simple, first-party pageview counter to see how many people visit and which pages are popular — it records the page visited, the site you came from (if any), and a random ID your browser generates itself and forgets when you close the tab (kept in your browser's session storage, not a cookie). It also records your approximate location (town and country only), which our hosting provider works out from your connection — we never store your IP address itself, your name, or any other personal detail, and the data is never shared with or sold to anyone. We load fonts from Google Fonts, which may involve your browser making a request to Google's servers.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time; the date at the top shows when it was last changed.
